Abstract

995,874. Feeding webs. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. April 18, 1962 [April 25, 1961], No. 15011/62. Heading B6B. [Also in Division G3] The tension in a web, e.g. of paper in a printing press, is regulated by a pneumatically loaded roller 12, movement of which controls the electric motor for rolling or unrolling the web. The roller is carried on a pair of pivoted arms 11 and load is applied by one or more piston and cylinder assemblies 16, 17 connected to a reservoir. The reservoir has inlet and outlet pipes controlled by valves by which the desired tension is set and is large relative to the cylinders; the tension may be kept constant. or varied automatically to a programme. Movement of the arms is communicated to a potentiometer and tacho-generator 29 which produce a combined displacement and rate of displacement which controls the speed or braking effect of the electric motor.
