Abstract

256,859. Lockett, R. G. Jan. 25, 1926. Systems controlling travel for a fixed distance; systems for obtaining reciprocating motion.- Controllers for motors which periodically accelerate and reverse rotary apparatus such as washing machines, are provided with means for stopping the apparatus in a given position, e.g. opposite a removable, cover of the outer casing, irrespective of the direction of rotation, and a device whereby the stopping means is put out of action until the controller has reached a high speed position. In the apparatus shown two rotary switches 16, 15 are connected in series with a coil which holds closed a line switch 5. The switch 15 rotates with the washer barrel 1 driven by the working motor M; the switch 16 rotates with the accelerating and reversing controller drum 6 driven by an auxiliary motor M<1>. Insulating segments are disposed on the switches 16, 15 and are interconnected through four pairs of brushes in such manner that at the moment when the washing barrel and the controller drum occupy the desired positions the line switch 5 is opened and a brake is applied by de-energization of a coil B.
