535,732. Non-regenerative braking of A.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., LIDDIARD, H. W. C., and HARTSHORN, J. S. Aug. 18, 1939, Nos. 23878/39, 27210/39 and 19/40. [Class 38 (iii)] A motor M operating winding mechanism is braked by disconnecting it from the supply and feeding its primary winding with direct current from two seriesconnected exciters E1, E2, the former supplying a constant voltage determined by a regulator R2, and the latter, driven by the motor, supplying a voltage varying in accordance with motor speed. In a modification the motor is fed from an exciter having two field windings fed respectively from the exciters E1, E2, a reversing contactor or a rectifier circuit preventing reversal of the field supplied from the exciter driven by the motor. In a further modification an exciter supplying the motor has three field windings, one supplied from a constant voltage source, a second in series with the feed to the motor, and a third supplied from an exciter driven by the motor. The secondary resistance is controlled in steps and additional resistances in the output circuit of the exciter driven by the motor are varied simultaneously with the secondary resistance.
