672,687. Control of D.C. motors. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. Dec. 5, 1949. [Nov. 29, 1948] No. 30934/48. Class 38 (iii). [Also in Group XXXV] In a, speed control system for a separately excited D.C. motor 1, the armature is supplied by a bridge rectifier 5 connected to an a.c. source 6 through a saturable reactor 8 correctively controlled acccording to the motor speed. The control winding 14 is energized by the resultant of the armature voltage opposed by a reference voltage across potentiometer 17 and a voltage proportional to armature current (obtained across potentiometer 13 from a current transformer 10 and rectifiers 12). A winding 18 in series with the armature provides positive feedback. In an alternative arrangement the winding 14 is connected in series with a. tachometer generator and the reference potentiometer 17. It is also stated that acceleration, torque, or angular position of the motor may be controlled.
