Abstract

695,729. Concrete buildings. BRUCE, R. Feb. 4, 1952 [Nov. 6, 1950], No. 27023/50. Class 20(iv) Walls of buildings are formed of a number of precast, reinforced, or prestressed, concrete columns a which rest on foundation blocks a' and are provided on opposite faces with longitudinally extending channels b to receive precast, reinforced, or prestressed, concrete planks c, the superimposed planks being notched at d to fit within the channels b and being provided with projections and recesses of bird - mouth section along their upper and lower edges respectively to fit one into the other. The ends of the planks are held in the channels by clamps g, Fig. 7, and a damp course lining may be introduced between the opposed faces of the channels and planks. A concrete frame l<SP>1</SP> for a window l has projections and recesses along its upper and lower edges to mate with the planks c, panels m each having one vertical side with a groove of re-entrant bird mouth section mating with corresponding projections on the side of the frame and the other side notched to fit in the channel b of the adjacent column a. A concrete door frame m' similarly engages upper and lower planks c, one side of the frame being formed with a rib to engage the channel of the adjacent column a, and the other side being formed with a rebate to receive projections on the adjacent sides of shorter panels c. Introduced between adjacent planks at intervals are metal plates p, Fig. 8, which extend inwardly to receive plaster board, or other lining material. The columns may be channelled along three or four faces when they are used at the junctions of three or four walls respectively. The roof may be likewise formed of concrete rafters h which meet at the apex of the roof, the rafters being provided with channels i to receive concrete planks j. The planks are clamped into the channels i, and the roof is preferably covered with suitable covering k.
