Abstract
Powders are made non-dusting by mixing therewith one or more liquid esters having at least six carbon atoms in the molecule and comprising completely esterified alcohols of at least five carbon atoms, the amount of such ester being insufficient to prevent the powder flowing freely. The ester may be mixed directly or in a volatile solvent such as ether or carbon tetrachloride, which is subsequently evaporated, or during spray-drying of the dyestuff. In examples: (1) 2,3-hydroxy-naphthoic acid is mixed with diamyl phthalate. Specifications 510,515 and 683,065, [Group IV (c)], are referred to.ALSO:Powders are made non-dusting by mixing therewith one or more liquid esters having at least six carbon atoms in the molecule and comprising completely esterified alcohols of at least five carbon atoms, the amount of such ester being insufficient to prevent the powder flowing freely. The powders may be dyestuffs, e.g. of the type used as dispersions for dyeing cellulose acetate rayon or nylon, or water-soluble dyes such as haematin. The ester may be mixed directly or in a volatile solvent such as ether or carbon tetrachloride, which is subsequently evaporated, or during spray-drying of the dyestuff. In examples: (1) a dye powder consisting of 4-nitro-2-methoxy-41-di-(hydroxyethyl) aminoazobenzene and a sulphonated ureacresol-formaldehyde (Specification 510,515) is mixed with dinonyl phthalate; (2) auramine O is mixed with dioctyl sebacate; (3) benzanil green BN is mixed with dioctyl phthalate. Specification 683,065 also is referred to.ALSO:Powders, e.g. chalk are made non-dusting by mixing therewith one or more liquid esters having at least six carbon atoms in the molecule and comprising completely esterified alcohols of at least five carbon atoms, the amount of such ester being insufficient to prevent the powder flowing freely. Specifications 510,515 and 683,065 are referred to.ALSO:Powders, e.g. cement, are made non-dusting by mixing therewith one or more liquid esters having at least six carbon atoms in the molecule and comprising completely esterified alcohols of at least five carbon atoms, the amount of such ester being insufficient to prevent the powder flowing freely.
