Abstract
694,143. Valve gear. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.- GES. April 18, .1951 [Sept. 19, 1950], No. 9096/51. Class 7 (vi). Two valves 1, 2 are actuated by cams 9, 11 on a common cam-shaft 3 through levers 5, 7 acting directly on the valve stems, the levers having lever arms, i.e. the distance from the lever pivot to the associated valve axis, of different lengths and rolling curves 10, 12, i.e. the surfaces in contact with the cams, of different radii, the rolling curve 12 for the lever 7 with the shorter arm being of larger radius than the rolling curve 10 of the lever 5, particularly so that during operation of the valves the centres Ma, Me, of the curves 12, 10 move along radii N Ma Ma', N Me Me' originating from the cam-shaft centre. As shown, the levers 5, 7, are pivoted on a common axis S, and the radii of the curves 10, 12 are inversely proportional to the distances of the associated valve axes 1, 2, from the pivot S. The ratio of the distances of the radii N Ma Ma<SP>1</SP> and. N Me Me<SP>1</SP> from the pivot S is approximately the same as that of the distances of the associated valve axes from the pivot S, and the valve 2 operated by the shorter lever arm is preferably an exhaust valve and may be of smaller dimensions than the inlet valve 1.
