Abstract
694,114. Lamp-holders. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and HUBBOLD, S. July 30, 1951 [Aug. 9, 1950], No. 19821/50. Class 38 (i). A holder, particularly for a doubleended discharge lamp having metal, bi-pin caps, comprises a cylindrical insulating base 1 closed at one end and in which is slidable an insulating socket member 5 having axial holes 7 . . . 10. The holes 7, 9 contain sliding plunger contacts 16, Fig. 3, for engaging the pins of a cap, said contacts being backed by springs 18 engaging terminal cups 19 in the base. The holes 8, 10 contain earthing contacts 25, Fig. 4, carrying pins 11, 12 which project from the front face of the holder for engaging a cap. Said contacts are backed by springs 26 which engage a plate 3 at the rear of the base adapted to engage a metal support when the holder is mounted thereon. Tho springs 18, 26 also serve to bias the socket member outwardly from the base, such movement being limited by the heads of screws contained in holes 28 in the socket member, said screws screwing into the plate 3. In a modification, Figs. 6-10 (not shown), the plunger and earthing contacts comprise telescoping sleeves enclosing the springs. Also a rib is provided on the socket member sliding in a groove in the base to prevent relative rotation between the two parts.
