Abstract

A cutting oil composition contains a mineral oil and a minor proportion of commercial hydroabietyl alcohol, i.e. a mixture of dehydroabietyl, dihydroabietyl and tetrahydroabietyl alcohols together with a small proportion of esters of hydrogenated rosin and hydrocarbons. Cutting oils referred to are mineral oil and sulphurized and/or chlorinated mineral oil or mixtures thereof. Esters of a hydroxy polycarboxylic acid in which at least one carboxyl group is esterified by hydroabietyl alcohol, for example dihydroabietyl malate, hydroabietyl oleyl malate and hydroabietyl 2-ethylhexyl malate may also be added.
