Abstract

693,400. Winding thread &c. BRIGHT & BROS., Ltd., J. Feb. 4, 1952 [May 3, 1951], No. 10413/51. Class 120(ii) In a drum-winding machine of the uptwister kind, the winding-on package 3 is weighted by a roller 18 resting thereon, the roller being carried by a bell-crank lever 15, 21, adjustably counter-weighted at 16 and pivoting about a horizontal axis rod 13, mounted in brackets 8, the roller 18 being supported from the boss 21 of the bell-crank by a support 19 pivotable about a spigot 20, so that it can accommodate itself to the package periphery. As 'the package 3 grows, the carrying brackets 8 pivot about the shaft 9 and the counterweight 16 moves towards the dotted-line position, gradually decreasing the pressure of the roller 18 on the package, until, just before the package is completed, the roller 18 is lifted from the package by the weight 16 and the wind completed under the weight of the package only. The bobbin on which the package 3 is wound is carried by a spindle 6 and the drum 5 engages the package between the bobbin flanges 4.
