[Class 120 (ii)] In winding cross-wound packages of processed yarn onto a core, the ununiformly processed length of yarn produced at the commencement of the processing operation is wound on a part of the core not normally covered with yarn and the movement of such ununiformly processed length of yarn brings about the automatic transfer of the yarn to a part of the support removed from the firstmentioned part when the winding of the ununiformly processed length of yarn is completed, cross-winding of the correctly processed yarn then proceeding in the usual manner without cessation of the processing and winding operation. The processing operation may be a twisting, sizing, lubricating or other operation and as shown the yarn from the processing operation passes over a wheel 23 to the winding core 9. The wheel 23 is mounted on a shaft 22 rotatable and slidable in a bearing 20 pivoted on a stud shaft 19 and the shaft 22 terminates in a threaded part 24 engaging a fixed threaded bearing 18. At the commencement of the operation the yarn is wound onto the end of the core opposite the wheel 23 which is rotated by the yarn and gradually screws itself out of the bearing 18 until, when it is entirely free from the bearing, the weight of the wheel causes the wheel, shaft 22 and bearing 20 to pivot on the shaft 19 and transfer the yarn to the usual traverse guide for the completion of the winding operation. The length of yarn wound before normal winding commences may be varied by varying the pitch of the threaded part 24 and the diameter of the wheel ; a collar 25 on the shaft 22 prevents the shaft falling out of the pivoted bearing 20 on tilting of the latter. The bearing 18 and stud shaft 19 are carried by a bracket 16 screwed to the cradle 5. Specification 455,396 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also means for governing the penetration of the shaft carrying the wheel into the threaded bearing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
