Abstract
692,758. Rotary pumps or meters. FETTE, W., [trading as FETTE, W. [Firm of] ]. Aug. 30, 1951, No. 20463/51. Class 110(ii) A ball piston pump (or meter) is provided with an oscillating piston 4 which rotates and oscillates between ball sections 2, 3a positioned obliquely one to the other and is driven by a shaft 1 through the member 2. 'The piston stub shaft 3 is inclined with respect to the shaft 1. The piston 4 is integral with two ball sections 5, 6 which are carried by a liner 11a. Pumping chambers are formed between the radial surfaces of the parts 2, 4, inlet and outlet ports 7, 8 being provided. A second arrangement, Fig. 4, shows the piston 4a co-acting with a driving member 2a in a ball-and-socket fashion with curved faces 2a<SP>1</SP>, 4a<SP>1</SP>. Cut-away portions 11a<SP>1</SP> in the housing, on both suction and delivery ports allows fluid to flow without pressure loss during pumping. The pump may be used for producing a vacuum on the suction side, as in a milking machine, and the compressed delivery air may be used for inflating vehicle tyres. As a compressor the apparatus may be used in a refrigerator, or as a meter, one shaft may drive recording apparatus. Various materials may be used for the parts e.g., steel, bronze, aluminium, rubber or artificial materials.
