Abstract

691,736. Suspension devices for safety belts. BURLINSON, H. S., and BARROW, HEPBURN & GALE, Ltd. Oct. 9, 1950 [Oct. 7, 1949], No. 25857/49. Class 141. A suspension device for a safety belt, e.g. of the kind described in Specification 691,735, comprises a strap, chain or as shown in Fig. 1, a nylon rope 12 joined by a ring 11 to a nylon rope 15 secured at its end to a D-ring 7 on the belt 1 and the rope 12 having a toggle 14 cooperating with a loose ring 14a for securing it to an anchorage, an extensible elastic rope 8 being also secured between the rings 7, 11 and having a length less than that of the nylon rope 15 in parallel with it. The arrangement is such that in case of a drop, the elastic rope 8 yields to take up the slack of the rope 15 whereupon the whole device extends to a limited extent on taking up the load. The elastic rope 8 may be formed of multiple parallelly disposed rubber threads enclosed in a braided covering. Each end of each length of rope is eyeleted and provided with channel-section brass thimbles which may be split radially to. permit engagement with the rings 7, 11. The ropes 12, 15 may be combined to form a single member.
