Belts. - In order to prevent a driving-belt 2 when broken from leaving its pulleys 6, 7 or shafting 8, 9, one or more ropes, cords, flexible wires, leather bands, &c., 3 are passed loosely through loops 1 secured to the belt, their ends being adjustably secured by rings 4 and knots 5 or by other means so as to be longer than the belt and thus free from strain. When the belt breaks, it is sustained by the cords, and may be prevented by stationary supporting-forks from leaving the pulleys. The loops 1 may be of leather and integral with or stitched or riveted directly to the belt or upon a support washer. The loops may be replaced by eyes, rings, straps, latch-hooks &c., which may be made detachable by securing to spring rings on the belt.
