[Class 141] A parachute harness comprises a sling consisting of separate cords affording a seat for the wearer, leg loops and a number of straps round the chest and back, guide tunnels being provided on these loops and straps which allow the sling cords to slip freely through them, the tensioning of the sling cords under load automatically tightening the straps. As shown, two chest straps 15 are joined by a buckle 16 and are connected to straps 18 crossing at the back and having their ends passing over the shoulder and engaged in buckles 19. A V-shaped strap 20 is joined to the front and side of each chest strap 15 and also passes through one of the buckles 19. The sling consists of eight cords 10 which pass downwards through each buckle 19. and then divide into two groups of four passing through tunnels 33, 34 at the front and side respectively, of each chest strap 15. Those passing through the tunnels 34 also pass through tunnels 25 at the end of a back strap 24 which they support. All eight cords pass through tunnels 29 at the upper end of one of the leg loops 28, the lower end of which is joined to the seat portion beneath stiffening pads 13 having tunnels 14 through which the cords are freely slidable. The cords normally form a diamond shape at the side of the front which pulls out vertically, tightening the back and chest straps, when tension is applied. The back strap 24 is positioned from the leg loops 28 by fabric distance pieces 30. The strap 24, loops 28 and straps 18 are held loosely on a lining garment 26 by flaps 31. Adjustment cords 35 are secured at 36 to the side of the chest straps 15, pass through loops 37 and are secured at 38 to the front of each chest strap 15. To prevent the leg loops 28 from slipping, weak threads 39 may be provided to tie them to the cords passing through the tunnels 29.
