Description

Feb. 26, 1952 R. E. ELLINGTON SUSPEND ER BELT Filed June 2, 1950 ZaBEZZz'nyZ'Ofl BY Q6 ATTORNEY5 Patented Feb. 26, 1952 SUSPENDER BELT Rudolph E. Ellington, White Plains, N. Y., assignor to The Strouse-Baer Company, Baltimore, Md.
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a combined belt and suspenders.
An object of this invention is to provide a combined suspender and belt which will provide a means whereby one of the straps used in forming the suspender may be removed and used as a belt with the connector which secures the crossed straps together forming the buckle for the belt.
Another object of this invention is to provide a suspender structure which is convertible into a a,
belt so that the user may support a garment either from the suspender or by means of the belt. A convertible Suspender-belt as herein disclosed will also provide an economical means which is both an economy to the producer and also to the user by providing a suspender formed of separable crossed straps, one of which may be used to form the belt.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a convertible suspender belt constructed according to an embodiment of this invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of a pair of trousers having one portion of the suspender belt extended through the belt loops for use as a belt.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 8-3 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing, the numerals I and II designate generally a pair of elongated straps which may be formed out of fabric or the like. The two straps I0 and I I are threaded through a connector buckle generally designated as I2. Each strap is formed with a fastener element I3 and I4 adjacent one end thereof, and strap I0 is provided adjacent the opposite ends thereof with a pair of fastener members I5. The strap II is also formed with a pair of fastener elements I6 at the end thereof opposite from the fastener element I4, and the two fasteners I6 are spaced from the fastener I4 a distance equal to the distance between fasteners I3 and I5.
The connector buckle I2 is formed of a pair of side members I1 and I8 which are connected to gether at the opposite ends thereof by connecting bars I9. An intermediate bar is disposed between the end bars I9 and is adapted to have extended thereover one end of the strap member I I. The strap member I I is the strap associated with the suspenders which is convertible to a belt. The strap II is adapted to be folded reversely at the buckle end 2I thereof as indicated at 22, and complementary snap fastener elements 23 and 24 Application June 2, 1950, Serial No. 165,707
secure the reverted or returned end 22 to the adjacent end of the strap II. The looped or returned portion of the strap II is adapted to be extended about the intermediate bar 20.
Referring now to Figure 2 there is disclosed in fragmentary form a perspective view of the upper portion of a pair of trousers 25. The trousers 25 have secured to the belt 26 thereof a plurality of spaced belt loops or straps 21. The strap I I is pulled through the connector buckle I2, and the connector I2 is then removed from strap I0. The buckle end 2| of the strap II is then engaged about the transverse bar 20, and the belt is extended in a conventional manner through the belt loops 21.
With a convertible suspender and belt structure as hereinbefore described, the user may easily and quickly convert the suspenders into a belt or revert the belt into a pair of suspenders as may be desired.
What is claimed is:
In a combined belt and Suspender, a strap, fastening means at each end of said strap for securing the same to a pair of trousers when used as a suspender, a connecting member consisting of a pair of parallel bars, end bars connecting said parallel bars and an intermediate bar between said parallel bars, said strap being passed on one side of said parallel bars and the other side of said intermediate bar whereby said connecting member is slidable on said strap, second fastening means on one end of said strap complementary to said first mentioned fastening means on said one end, and coacting therewith when an end of said strap is looped about said intermediate bar to secure said connecting member at said one end of said strap whereby the other end of said strap may be passed under said parallel bars and over said intermediate bar to secure the ends of said strap to form a belt, said connecting member being adapted upon release of said coacting fastening members to slide to an intermediate point of said strap for the reception of a second crossing strap to form a suspender.
