Abstract
691,735. Safety belts. BURLINSON, H. S., and BARROW, HEPBURN & GALE, Ltd. Oct. 9, 1950 [Oct. 7, 1949], No. 25856/49. Class 141. A safety belt adapted to be connected to an anchorage by a suspension device, e.g. as described in Specification 691,736, comprises a wide band 1, Fig. 6, of leather, cotton or nylon webbing, or heavy canvas, secured around the chest and under the armpits by two buckle straps 2 crossing at the rear and passing through guide loops 5, 6 on the band 1, a loop 3 having crossed strap guides engaging the straps 2 at the region of their crossing and having a D- ring 19 for attachment of the suspension device 22 and the end of one strap 2 connecting to the opposite end of the other. The arrangement is such that in case of a drop, the tension is transmitted through the loop 3 and substantially equally through both straps 2 so that they apply a distributed pressure to the band 1. The upper edge of the band 1 is padded at 4 where it comes under the armpits. The pronged buckle connections are located by the passage of the straps 2 through tandem pairs of loops 5 across the front of the band 1 and a single wider loop 6 at each end. The loop 3 comprises inner looped strap members 7, 8, Fig. 4, at the upper and lower parts thereof having inclined end edges 11, 12, 13, 14 so arranged as to provide superimposed slots 9, 10 appropriately angled to guide the straps 2 in the desired crossing direction, the straps 7, 8 being enclosed by an outer strap 15, and the whole being secured by strong thread stitching. The upper fold of the loop 3 may be metal lined.
