Abstract
689,506. Letting-off warps. BRADLEY, W. July 23, 1951 [Aug. 16, 1950]. No. 20332/50. Class 142(ii) [Also in Group XXXIV] A cylindrical brake shoe 14 is urged against the grooved periphery of a brake drum 8 so as to prevent rotation under the condition of static friction, but to permit rotation under the condition of dynamic friction produced by oscillating the shoe about its axis under the control of a movable back rest 7. The shoe is loaded by a spring 17 and a chain 9, which gears the brake drum to the beam 5 and passes round a jockey sprocket 18 mounted on the brake shoe carrier 15. The shoe is oscillated by an arm 22 linked to a pin 24 which projects into a triangular frame 25 oscillated by the slay through a link 27; an increase in tension of the warp A displaces the back rest 7 and, through a lever 30 pivoted at 31, moves the pin 24 to the left so as to increase the amplitude of oscillation of the brake shoe. In order that cyclical movements of the back rest 7 due to shedding shall not effect the brake, the pivot 31 is carried by a bellcrank lever 34 which is oscillated by the slay through a link 36. The lever 30 is loaded by a weight 33 and its movements are damped by a plate 46 sliding between a pair of pads 49, the plate 46 being also oscillated by a link 45. Specifications 439,843 and 463,336 are referred to.
