Abstract

439,843. Brakes. BRADLEY, W., Beacon Works, Addingham, near Leeds. Dec. 28, 1934, No. 37126. [Class 103 (i)] [See also Group IX] Means for controlling the friction let-off motion of a loom or for controlling the movement of a rotary member acting under the retardation of a brake comprises two braking members which are adapted to be simultaneously and continuously or intermittently moved in opposite directions and alternatively exert and maintain or permit a turning action or movement on the warp beam or rotary member. In the construction shown two braking members 1 mounted in parallel on the ruffle 2 of a warp beam are attached at one end, by members 4, to opposite sides of a shaft 5 and at the other end to the ends of a centrally pivoted lever 10 that is free to swing on the end of a rod 11 adjustably connected to the loom frame. The shaft 5 is free to roll in bearings 6 in a weight supporting lever 7 and carries an arm 13 having a wedge shaped portion 14 for co-operation with pins 15 on a lever 6 that is reciprocated between friction surfaces 17 by a moving part of the loom. The lever 16 is connected to the back bearer 20 by members 25, 24 and as the tension of the warp varies a corresponding vertical movement is given to the lever 16 to vary the rocking movement of the shaft 5 and the sliding movement of the brakebands and thereby expend a greater or lesser amount of warp. The beam may be reversed by operating the lever 10.
