Class 142(2) A warp beam brake comprises two adjustable spring devices, the second automatically reducing the braking force as the warp is drawn from the beam. In one embodiment (Fig. 1), a warp beam 1 mounted at each end on rollers 3 has drums 2 each braked by a band 6. One end of the band is connected to a rod 7 which is influenced by a spring 11 the force of which is adjusted by a handwheel 15. The other end of the band is connected at 17 to a lever 20 pivoted intermediate its ends. The lever 20 is conected by an adjustable spring device 22, 30, 32, 33 to a lever 25 and an arm 28 carrying a roller 29 that presses on the yarn 5. As the diameter of the yarn 5 decreases, the arm 28 and the lever 25 pivot anticlockwise (Fig. 1) to reduce the force of the spring 33 and thereby reduce the braking force of the band 6. In a modification, the lever 20 is pivoted at its left hand end, the band 6 is connected to the lever intermediate its ends and a spring device is connected to the right-hand end of the lever 20 by a roller engaging the top edge of the lever which curves downwards. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2) brake drums 43 are driven by gears 42 from the warp beam 41 and a band 44 passes round each drum. .One end of each band is anchored by an adjustable spring device 62. The other end is connected to a lever 46 pivoted at 47. A lever 48, also pivoted at 47, is connected by a rod 49 and an adjustable spring 50 to a lever 52 pivoted at 52A. The lever 52 is moved as the beam diameter decreases by a roller 57, a lever 56, and a feeler arm 58, thereby decreasing the effect of the spring 50 on the lever 48 and the band 44.
