689,435. Reciprocating pumps. PISCHINGER, A. May 31, 1951 [May 31, 1950], No. 12938/51. Class 102 (i). A reciprocating pump for feeding fuel to a fuel-injection pump has a spring-loaded valve 9 operated by the delivery pressure produced in the pump cylinder 4 and controlling both the suction and delivery conduits and also acting as a relief valve in the event of excess pressure in the pump chamber. The pump plunger 1 is double acting and is actuated in one direction by a cam or crank through a push rod 3 and in the other direction by a spring 2. Alternatively the plunger may be actuated in both directions by a crank. The piston valve 9 operates in a ported sleeve 8 and is loaded by opposed springs 11, 12. The delivery pressure acting on a partition 24 moves the valve to place the delivery side of the plunger in communication with the delivery conduit 17 and the suction side with either of the suction conduits 15, 16. Excess pressure causes the valve to be moved sufficiently for its end to uncover one of the suction conduits. The valve also acts as an accumulator piston.
