Abstract

688,280. Binding posts. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. April 13, 1951 [April 14, 1950], No. 9205/50. Class 38 (i). A terminal block 1 having a bore to receive a non-stranded conductor such as a bus-bar 2, has two clamping screws 3 normal to the axis of the bore and the end of the conductor is slotted so that when the screws are tightened their ends enter the slot in the conductor and force the sides thereof apart, thereby deforming the conductor into contact with the sides of the bore and cutting a thread in the material of the conductor. The screws may be tapered and the sides of the bore may have circumferential grooves, e.g. a screw-thread, or longitudinal grooves.
