Abstract

685,885. Selective pipe couplings. CRANE CO. Oct. 9, 1950. No. 24622/50. Class 99 (i) [Also in Group XXX] A selective connecting-device for coupling a pipe 18 alternatively to pipes 19, 21 comprises a reciprocable carriage 26 on which is mounted a straight connecting pipe section 11 and a curved section 12, each of which may be brought into line with the pipes. The carriage is mounted by rubber blocks 33 and wheels 29 in a rectangular, V-section frame 16 to which the pipes are connected. The end faces of the pipes and pipe sections are inclined to the axes of the pipes 18, 19, and when the carriage is pressed down against its resilient mounting by a pneumatic ram 40, the pipe section ends are seated on gaskets 46. The carriage is moved by a remotely-controlled pneumatic ram (not shown). Switches 48 at the ends of the frame control signals to indicate which pipes are connected. Adjustable stops 28 serve to align the pipe sections and pipes. Specification 685,884, [Group XXX], is referred to.
