Abstract
684,488. Ratchet clutches & gearing; couplings. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. Nov. 27, 1950 [Nov. 25, 1949], No. 30330/49. Classes 80 (ii) and 80 (iii). [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXXIV] In a lubricating pump driving mechanism, the drive passes through a free-wheel device and lost-motion device arranged in series. The freewheel device comprises a spring 39 wound on the hub 37a of a driving gear wheel 37 and on an intermediate member 38, so that the spring tightens about the members 37a, 38 during drive in one direction. The member 38 is freely mounted on a driven shaft 20b and has abutments 38a, Fig. 4, which engage a pin 40 on the shaft 20b, thus constituting the lost-motion device. The pump may be primed manually by means of ratchet mechanism comprising a lever 43 pivoted at 44 and carrying a pair of spring pressed pawls 46, 47 engaging ratchet teeth 41 on a crank disc 20. The pawl 46 prevents backward rotation of the disc 20.
