Class 117 [Also in Group XXX] Grain conveyed by air current up elevating pipe a, Fig. 1, is separated in separator c and is discharged by wheel d so that it falls into branch pipe b up which a portion of the conveying air is "sidetracked." The clean grain falls into hopper e to be discharged by wheel f and the air containing impurities joins the separated air at g (valves i and h controlling the separate flows) and the air passes to a cyclone and to a fan. In a modification, Fig. 2, the elevated grain is separated in a catch-box j, sliding down its bottom k into the branch pipe b. Alternatively branch pipe b may go directly to pipe g without entraining impurities from the grain. In a further modification Fig. 6, grain passing up elevating pipe a is separated out in cyclone n and falls into pipe b up which air passes from pipe a so that clean grain is discharged at p and the resulting air-bearing impurities passes into cyclone q, the impurities being discharged at r, and the fans s and t producing the air current.
