Abstract

665,327. Pneumatic systems. SIMON (HOLDINGS), Ltd., H. June 21, 1950. [July 8, 1949 ; Aug. 8, 1949; Aug. 25, 1949; Sept. 7, 1949; Sept. 7, 1949] Nos. 18085/49. 20545/49, 22099/49, 23154/49, 23155/49. Class 78 (i). A pneumatic elevator for elevating flour mill stock from a machine or machines into which air is drawn by the pneumatic system so that the machine is exhausted and the stock aerated, comprises a vertical or substantially vertical pipe (to the top of which suction is applied) into which pipe the said stock is delivered from said machine together with said air at a point above the bottom of said pipe, the said bottom being either open, or adapted to open, if the suction fails, so as to allow stock to fall out of the pipe and not block the same when the suction fails, the top of the pipe leading to separators for separating stock and dust from the elevated stock and air mixture. Fig. 1. Air is drawn by blowers g and j through flour mill a and open end d so that flour from mill a is aerated and descends pipe b and is blown up vertical pipe c and deposited in filters h and i. Valve n and adjustable flap e allow adjustment of the flow. The flour may be delivered from a to b by screw conveyer : filter h may be horizontal : pipe c may be curved round gently at the top, and filter h may be provided with an expansion box. The pipe or pipes c may ascend up through mill a, the flour passing through a valved aperture into the pipe. The air may also be into pipe b after clearing other flour-treating units. Fig. 7. Aerated flour falls down pipe b, the air escaping through valved pipe S into pipe c and the flour being fed by rotary valve u to a lower part of pipe c and being carried up the pipe c by air entering at pivoted flap e. Valve u may be omitted. Fig. 11. Aerated flour descends pipe b, the air thereof being fed by pipe x to the bottom of pipe c and the flour being fed by rotary valve u to pipe c at a higher point so as to be blown thereby up pipe c, weighted flap y serving to permit outlet of flour from pipe c when the suction fails.
