Abstract
683,346. Gas meters. HIBBERD, H. C. Nov. 29, 1950 [July 14, 1950], No. 29285/50. Class 54. A gas meter is provided with a casing comprising a number of separately-formed sections clamped together in a gastight manner by tie rods each of which extends through all of the sections. In the preferred embodiment, the casing comprises a gallery section 2 of inverted bowl formation, an intermediate section 4 and a lower section 3 which are provided with bosses to receive the tie rods 1. The latter, which are headed, may be built up from sections screwed together, or be provided with nuts 6 intermediate their ends so that one or more sections of the casing may be removed without disturbing the others. The section 4 is provided with gas passages closed by a separately formed valve plate 14a secured to an upstanding rein on this section in order that the joint and gasket will be out of contact with accumulated moisture which gravitates into a duct 4a. A port 4b is provided in this duct to enable the meter to be connected with a prepayment or other attachment. Concave formations 4c are also provided in the section 4 to fit the diaphragm pans 6a which are secured by bolts. The gallery 2 may have a removable cover. When more than one intermediate section is provided, the taper on them may extend in one direction only or in opposite directions on different sections.
