Abstract
1303015 Steam turbines WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 20 Oct 1971 [8 Dec 1970] 48789/71 Heading FIT A steam turbine comprises a casing 10 divided into upper and lower parts 12, 14, the upper part having an opening 18 in its top wall covered by a steam chest 28 containing admission valve means 38, 40, 42, and a low pressure nozzle chamber 20 bolted at an upper flange 22 to the flange 26 surrounding opening 18 and extending through the latter to define passages 44 leading to an array of nozzle groups, chamber 20 being spaced from the walls of casing parts 12, 14 to permit thermal expansion. Lower casing part 14 has an opening 56 over which is bolted a plate 58 which may have a central opening within which is welded or cast the neck of a high pressure nozzle chamber 60. In the arrangement shown steam chest 28 is cast separately from nozzle chamber 20 and is bolted to flange 26. However in a modification Figs. 3, 4, (not shown), the side walls (28A, 28B) of chest 28 are cast integrally with chamber 20 and the upper ends of the side walls are provided with flanges (62) to which is bolted a covering plate (64).
