Abstract
1438582 Turbine plant STAL-LAVAL TURBIN A B 17 Oct 1973 [20 Oct 1972] 48362/73 Heading F1J In a ship's propulsion system including a forward turbine 20 and a downstream reverse turbine 16 mounted on the same shaft 21, the reverse turbine 16 and an end member 5 containing a bearing 6 for the shaft are inter-connected by stays 4 and are supported in the outlet casing 1 of the forward turbine by an arrangement of plates 3 surrounding one of the two parts. As shown, an arrangement of four plates 3 surrounds the reverse turbine casing, being connected thereto at the midpoints of its sides, and to the outlet casing 1 at its corners. Ducts 10 are belllows-connected at 15 to the condenser wall 11 and allow inspection.of the shaft bearing 6 via an inspection chamber 14. The plane of connection between the outlet casing 1 and the wall 11 at 12, and between the duct 10 and end member 5 at 13, allows lifting of the turbine shaft without splitting of wall 11. Again, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), an alternative arrangement of plates 3 surrounds the end member 5.
