Abstract
682,290. Door latches. BIENAIME, R. Nov. 8, 1950 [Feb. 6, 1950], No. 27335/50. Class 44 A door latch comprises a pair of parallel bolts 3, 3a, Fig. 1, projected by springs 4, 4a, the bolts being provided at their outer extremities with inclined bevelled surfaces adapted to co-operate with oblique edges of the opening in the striking plate to prevent rattling and dropping of the door. In the form of Figs. 1 and 4 each bevelled surface 5, 5a is formed on the side opposite to the other bolt, the surface being a plane passing through a diagonal of the end face of the bolt and a point on the corner of the bolt removed from the end face a distance of the order of the length of the greater sides of the end face. In this form the opening. 7 in the striking plate 6 is of trapezoidal shape the bevelled surfaces engaging the oblique edges 8. The bevelled surfaces are formed on the side of opening of the door, the bolts being pushed back as the door closes by a ramp formed on the striking plate. In another form each bolt is bevelled on the side adjacent to the other bolt and the aperture 7, Fig. 6, of the striking plate 6 is in the shape of a pair of right angled triangles having their acute angles directed towards one another. The bolts are retracted by a handle follower 11, Fig. 1, engaging a bell-crank lever 10 connected to a yoke 9.
