Abstract

682,202. Decorticating sisal leaves &c. ROBEY & CO., Ltd. (Souchon A. M.). May 9, 1951 [Feb. 10, 1950], No. 3442/50. Class 120(i) In the operation of a decorticating machine, sisal leaf or like fibrous material is passed over a feed table, between rollers 8 and 9, which may have peripheral ratchet teeth, the upper roller being mounted on the front edge of a hinged cover 6 which is shaped to provide a feed opening and is of such a weight or construction or so weighted that the roller 9 acts on the material with a predetermined pressure, and the material is fed at a predetermined rate over a scutching plate 5, on an adjustable plate 4, where it is decorticated by a rotary bladed drum 2. The fibre then falls over the upper run of an endless rope 17 and is carried to a pulley wheel 16 where it is gripped between the rope 17 and double endless ropes 20 carried on pulley wheels 18, 19, and also engaging the wheel 16, and passed over another scutching plate 14 where decortication of the butt end is completed. The fibre is released at the point where the ropes 20 leave the pulley 16.
