Means for stripping work from the roller 1 of a laundry ironing machine comprises a single endless tape 4 passing a predetermined number of times around the roller, means at the delivery side of the roller to hold a portion of each turn of the tape away from the surface of the roller in order to strip the work therefrom, means for spacing the turns along the roller, and means for adjusting the tension on the tape. The tape 4 passes over deep flanged bobbins 10, 11 carried by bars 8, 9 of a carrier frame having end members 7 pivoted on a rod 5 extending between lugs 6 on the end frame members 2 of the machine. The bar 9 also carries direction changing bobbins 12 and 13 by means of which the tape is returned from one end of the roller to the other. The bobbins 10, 11, 12, 13 are mounted at desired inclinations on cranked pins 14. The tension of the tape may be adjusted by means of thumb-screws 15 mounted in the carrier frame and bearing on the end members 2 of the machine frame. Alternatively, the axle pins 14 of the bobbins 12, 13 may be carried by slides which are adjustable towards or away from the roller. In a further alternative, two bobbins acting on the run between the bobbins 12, 13 may have spring means constantly urging them apart. Instead of bobbins 10, 11 for guiding the tape, the bars 8, 9 may have smooth polished. surfaces over which the tape runs, and may be provided with guide wings between which the tape passes. Alternatively, deep flanged bobbins may be mounted directly on the bars 8, 9 or each bar may be equipped with guide wings and mounted for rotation in the end members 2.
