Feeding webs.-In a machine for double-coating webs of paper or fabric, two web rolls are so disposed externally of the loop of web undergoing treatment that the web from one roll can be joined to the nearly expired web passing from the other roll to save time and avoid wasting web at the beginning and end of the rolls. Two web rolls 1, 2 are mounted in laterally adjustable bearings in brackets 19, 20 on the machine frame 3 and the active web 4 passes over guide rollers 5 - - 9, first coating-roller 10, cooling-cylinder 12, guide rollers 13, 14, second coating-roller 15, guide rollers 16, 17, and cooling-cylinder 18 to the usual festooning mechanism The web 24 form the reserve roll 2 passes round a guide roller 23 and its free end is attached to the web 4 when the latter is nearly exhausted. The roller 5 may be replaced by two pairs of freely rotatable rollers, the first pair being capable of being driven at a higher speed to form a loop of web between the pairs of rollers to facilitate joining the webs without stopping the machine.
