Abstract

537,574. Yarn-tensioning devices for knitting, braiding, &c. machines. CARTER & CO., Ltd., B. & F., CARTER, B., and CARTER, E. March 29, 1940, No. 5663. [Classes 74 (i) and 74 (ii)] [Also in Group IX] A yarn-tensioning device for a knitting, braiding or other textile machine comprises a fixed open-channelled yarn guide 9 giving free passage of the yarn and a pair of additional yarn guides 13 having external yarn-engaging parts. At least one of the guides 13 may be adjusted to vary the tension in the yarn and fixed in the adjusted position. The guides 13 are arranged on the supply side of the guide 9, and at least one of the guides 13 has its yarn-engaging surface covered with felt, rubber or other material to impose a drag on the yarn. In the form shown, the two guides 13 are mounted upon a bar 12 pivotally mounted about its centre; in a modification the bar 12 is mounted to rotate about the axis of one of the guides 13, so that one only of the guides has its position adjusted. After passing through the guide 9, the yarn or each yarn is passed through an eye in a pin 17 mounted above a contact bar 6, so that upon breakage or undue slackness in a yarn, the pin falls upon the bar to make an electric circuit and stop the machine. Specification 523,781 is referred to.
