681,085. Stuffing-boxes. GRANNENFELT, A. July 18, 1951, No. 17075/51. Class 122(v) [Also in Group XXIX] A stuffing-box for the sliding plate closure member 14 of a sluice valve (see Group XXIX) comprises a ring of packing 22 surrounding the plate, a pair of wedges 23 in contact with the packing at each edge of the plate, co-operating buffer strips 24 enclosing the wedges and packing, and screws 25 to force the strips inwards and so compress the packing. The wedges are of hardwood and the packing consists of hemp and tallow. Additional'packing strips 26 are housed in recesses in the valve casing.
