Abstract

682,057. Valves. GRANNENFELT, A. July 18, 1951. No. 17076/51. Class 135. A plate 14 constituting the closure member of a sluice valve slides between two sharp-edged ledge sealing members 24 which extend from points on opposite sides of the valve casing down to the bottom thereof where they overlap each other for only a short distance. When the valve is used to control flow in pulp lines, the bottom edge of the plate 14 is formed with a groove 25 so that jammed fibres will be cut between the sharp edges of the groove and of the ledges 24. The valve plate is sealed by a packing ring 22 and by arcuate packing strips 23 of hemp and tallow set in recesses in the valve casing. The plate is moved by a manually-actuated spindle 16 which screws into a nut 17 carried by the plate, a collar 18 on the spindle preventing axial movement thereof. The plate also carries bolts 27 sliding in slots in the limbs of the yoke 5 supporting the operating spindle, and one of the bolts carries a pointer co-operating with a scale to indicate the degree of opening of the valve.
