Abstract
680,850. Fastenings. LUCE, H. R. July 12, 1951 [July 14, 1950], No. 17622/50. Class 44 A fastening e.g. for doors or tail-doors of waggons comprises a fixed pin 10, Fig. 1, co-operating with an eye carried by the movable part, the pin 10 being outwardly slotted to receive a longitudinally slotted retaining plate 15 slidably engaged on a cross pin 17 and movable from an aligned position in which the eye may pass on and off the pin 10 to a fastening position (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1) in which the plate hangs vertically and abuts the eye. The end of the plate is radiused on one corner 18 to allow it to be turned to the vertical position, the other corner engaging the end of the slot to maintain the plate in the aligned position. A notch 21 is provided in the outer end of the slot 16 to prevent the plate jumping to the releasing position as the result of jolting. In a modification the slot 16 is inclined to the sides of the plate so that it engages the eye with a wedging action. In the form of Fig. 5 a spring 25 and washer 24 are interposed between the eye 26 and the supporting bracket 12, the spring being compressed before the plate can be turned to the locking position.
