Abstract
600,976. Catches. R PAULTS, Ltd., ROBERTS, G. A., and ELMS, T. C. Oct. 8, 1945, No. 26154. [Class 44] In a fastening for a motor car bonnet of the type having a hooked member 1 mounted by a pin-and-slot connection to a support 3 so as to permit the member 1 to be moved first'rectilinearly and then rotated and to ensure the two motions are effected in the appropriate sequence, the member 1 is provided in its shank with a slot 10 through which extends a pin 9 engaged in the mounting and on the shank is a lug 12 engaging a slot 11 in the mounting. The hook engages a stirrup 13 attached to the movable panel. To release the device, the lever 5 is turned back from its over-centre position until the helical spring 7 becomes closed, acting as a strut, first to lift the hooked member from engagement with the guide 11, and then to turn it to clear the hook from the stirrup. In fastening the device the spring first causes the member 1 to turn into the upright position, then to engage the stirrup and to be locked in that position by engagement of the lug 12 with the guide 11.
