Abstract
460,220. Hook fastenings. CHARNEY, L. July 23, 1935, No. 20917. [Class 44] A fastener, particularly for securing motor car bonnets, has a holder 1 of square cross - section secured by flanges 1<a> to the bonnet or wall 2. A hollow square member 4 is mounted to slide in the holder 1 and its lower end is bifurcated, the two parts 4<a> being provided with flanges 4<b>. The bifurcated end passes through slots in the bottom of the holder, and carries a pin 6 on which are pivoted two hooks 5. A pin 7 connects the rear parts of the hooks. A flat bolt 8 slides in the member 4, and has a slot 8<b> in which the pin 6 can move. A cross-slot 8<c> in the bolt contains the pin 7 of the hooks, and a spring 10 normally holds the bolt in its uppermost position. To lock the device, the member 4 is pressed down by the finger grips 4<c> and the hooks 5 ride over the hasp 11 ; the spring 10 causes them to swing outwards and on release the spring draws up the moving parts to occupy the locking position shown in Fig. 8. To release the device, the bolt 8 is depressed by means of its button 9 ; after the initial movement the member 4 also moves down, and the hooks move clear of the hasp 11 until the parts occupy the position shown in Fig. 7. By grasping the finger grips 4<c> and at the same time holding the bolt fully home, the device can be lifted past the hasp.
