[Class 44] In a sliding-clasp fastening with two sliders which meet intermediate the ends of the fastening, the sliders are adapted to be locked together by a locking mechanism embodied in one of them. A tongue or slide on one slider may be arranged to co-operate slide and sheath fashion with the other slider and to snap into fastening engagement. Preferably, the locking mechanism is key-operated. Fig. 3 shows the sliders 3, 7 of two fasteners 2, 6 applied to a suit-case, the complementary parts of the tapes being sewn to the body and lid. Each slider has a nib 11 to which are pivoted fastening members 13, 14, the former of box form with a spring tongue 16a projecting through a slot in one end of the box and having an enlarged head 18 and a keyhole 20. The member 14 is also of box shape, the end wall 23 having a slot to receive the tongue, and the remote end wall 25 having a slot for the head 18 of the tongue. The top of the box member 14 has a keyhole 27 under which the keyhole 20 in the tongue lies when the tongue is fully entered in member 14. A spring-pressed locking bolt 29 carries a stop 30 which in the locking position prevents the head of the tongue from being depressed to release it from the sheath 14. The bottom plate of one of the members, e.g. the member 13, may be extended to support the other member. A T-shaped label holder 34a may be secured at 35a to the lid so that the stem part thereof lies under the fastening members and is held down by. them when fastened, and may be so arranged that the label cannot be then removed. Other forms of fastening may be used, e.g. a hasp lock, or as shown in Fig. 5, the member 14 may have a keyholed hinge catch-plate 37 to which is connected a wire loop, the other end of which is received in a groove 39 in the remote wall of the member 13, the catch-plate 37 being adapted to be locked.
