Abstract

680,752. Brush holders for dynamo-electric machines. HOOVER, Ltd. Jan. 15, 1951 [Jan. 19, 1950], No. 1034/51. Class 35. A brush 12 is urged by a coiled spring 14 which is disposed on top of the brush and which has one end anchored by a rivet 16 at a point on the brush holder alongside the brush. The coil spring axis may be either parallel or transverse to that of the machine. In order to maintain constant spring pressure when the brush is shortened due to wear, the spring is pre-stressed so that its natural curvature is of smaller radius towards its outer anchored end than towards its inner end. This pre-stressing of the spring may be done in such a way that the spring assumes a camber in transverse section as it unwinds from the coil so as to push the brush sideways to avoid chattering of the brush.
