Abstract

Spring supports.-Jewel bearings for the rotary elements of electric meters, in which the jewel is capable of lateral movement relative to the jewel screw, comprise a partly bored jewel screw 3, Fig. 1, having a flexible rod or wire 5 secured in the base of the bore, the jewel cup 6 being carried at the free end of the rod or wire. The jewel cup 6 may be firmly secured to the free end of the flexible rod, or it may be loosely mounted for axial movement thereon, as shown in Fig. 2, in which case it is resiliently supported by a spring 8 and is formed with a groove 9 coacting with a lip 10 on the jewel screw, the lip being formed by hammering over the edge of the jewel screw. The flexible rod 5 may be bent to increase its effective length, or it may be replaced by a coil spring, preferably of conical shape, and having its lower end secured in the base of the bore in the jewel screw.
