679,209. Valves, wedging or jamming. HAMER, L. S. Dec. 14, 1949, No. 32104/49. Class 135. A pipe line fitting comprises an inner tubular body part B, Fig. 3, screwed at 26 into an outer tubular body part A and a control plate C movable transversely into and out of register with aligned bores 10, 11 in the parts A, B respectively between a shoulder 17 on the part A and the end face of a clamping sleeve D. The sleeve D has a recess 41 housing a key E preventing its rotation whilst still permitting slight axial movement and screw threads 62 engageable with corresponding threads on a ballbearing mounted ring member H, provided on its external periphery with gear teeth 65, Fig. 2, engageable with a worm 64 secured on a spindle 63 operable by a handwheel 66. On rotation of the handwheel, the ring H rotates to axially move the sleeve D into or out of engagement with the plate C to clamp the plate against or release it from the shoulder 17.
