A rotary valve comprises a body part 4 adapted to be mounted in a position for use such as the wall 1 of a cask and having a bore 7 across which extends a face part 10 with one or more offset ports 15, and a valve member 8 rotatably mounted in a bore 7 in the body part and having at one end one or more offset ports 21 corresponding to and adapted to be brought into and out of register with the ports 15 on rotation of the valve member by a tubular or like key 27 one or each radial projection 28 on which is adapted to pass through a gapped flange 20 on the body part 4 to retain the key in connection with the valve member. The face part 10 consists of a disc of synthetic rubber or like material. This disc 10 and a similarly ported backing plate 11 are held against a shoulder in the body part 4 by a threaded retaining rim 12 carrying a sealing washer 121 and having notches 13 to facilitate its rotation. The body part 4 is held against a packing 14 by a notched retaining ring 5 screwed into the cask wall 1. The valve member 8 is held axially between the disc 10 and a flange 20 having gaps 29 to facilitate the insertions of the radial lugs 28 on the key 27 into gaps 30 in a flange 25 at the back of the valve member. The key can only be inserted and withdrawn in the closed position of the valve. The ports 21 are connected by inclined passages 22 to an axial passage 23 the outer wall of which is embraced by the key. The rotary movement of the valve is limited by a removable set screw 32 engaging an arcuate slot in the valve member 8. The head of the set screw 32 engages a groove 33 in the cask wall to prevent rotation of the body part 4. Rotation of the disc 10 and plate 11 is prevented by tongues 18 engaging a groove in the counterbore 9.
