Abstract

859,673. Valves. BLAKEBOROUGH & SONS Ltd., J. Jan. 9,1959 [Jan. 16, 1958], No. 1512/58. Class 135. A wedge-type gate valve 22 has a sealing-ring 32 resiliently mounted on the closure member or its seat whereby the ring is pressed on its co-operating surface when the valve is closed. The nickel bronze ring 32 is accommodated in an outer parallel-sided annular groove 24 having an inner recessed section 28 of trapezoidal section containing a rectangularsection rubber ring 30. The sealing ring, when the valve is closed, is loaded on to the valve seat by the rubber ring which is distorted to fill the voids 36, 38. The sealing-ring 32 is provided with a rubber face-ring 44 which may be solid or have a backing recess 46 connected via passage 52 to the line pressure.
