Abstract

678,459. Winding glass &c. threads. SOC ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE St. GOBAIN, CHAUNY, & CIREY. Feb. 20, 1950 [Feb. 19, 1949], No. 4297/50. Class 120(ii) Apparatus for the production of threads &c. made of continuous fibres obtained by attenuating filaments' of thermoplastic material, comprises a reservoir 1 for containing the molten material, e.g. glass, orifices in the reservoir for the issue therefrom of streams of the material, means 3 for collecting the streams in the form of an untwisted thread, two collars 5, 7 carried on parallel or co-axial shafts and means, e.g. belts 10, 10<SP>1</SP> for rotating the collars, a bobbin carried on each collar and upon which the thread is to be wound, and a thread guide 6 having its axis fixed with regard to the collars, the guide being adapted to act upon the thread so that it is wound successively and without any appreciable interruption of attenuation,. first on one bobbin and then on the other, the filled bobbin being removed and replaced by an empty one while the other is being wound. The guide 6 is furnished with thread-guiding blades on its periphery and is reversed by gearing 14, driven from the motor 9 through reduction gearing 8. when one bobbin has been filled. For doffing, the collars 5, 7 are swung back about axis 18, 18<SP>1</SP>. The blades of the guide 6 may be irregular or replaced by fingers.
