Abstract

678,092. Wrapping-machines. MASON, J. A., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Aug. 22, 1950 [Aug. 23, 1949], No. 21862/49. Class 94(i) In a wrapping machine, partially-wrapped cigarette cartons are delivered by a conveyer (not shown) on to a lifting platform 4 comprising two parts 5, 6 each carrying part of a folder member 7 which folds up an extending portion of the wrapper when the platform rises. The part 6 is adjustable towards and away from the part 5 to accommodate cartons of different sizes, and the parts 8 and 9 of the member 7 are bridged by a slidable plate, see Fig. 2 (not shown), so that the member presents an unbroken upper edge. The part 5 is carried by a support 18 mounted on pivoted arms 20 and 21, and the part 6 by a support 19 mounted on pivoted arms 22 and 23, the arm 20 being secured to a hollow shaft 24 and the arm 22 to a shaft 25 which is slidable within the shaft 24 and coupled thereto by a key 26. The arms 23 and 21 are secured to stub shafts 27. A cam 28 is secured to a hollow shaft 29 driven through gearing from the main drive of the machine and co-operates with a roller 33 on the arm 20 to raise the platform at intervals. A shaft 30 slidable within the shaft 29 and coupled thereto by a key 32 carries a cam 31 which co-operates with a roller 34 on an extension 35 of the arm 22 to lower the platform to its original position after each rising movement. The arrangement of the shafts 24, 25 and 29, 30 allows the part 6 and associated mechanism to be adjusted bodily towards and away from the part 5 and its associated mechanism.
