677,638. Exciting dynamos. SOC. D'EXPLOITATION DE BREVETS. April 26, 1949 [April 29, 1948; Dec. 20, 1948], Nos. 11110/49 and 11111/49. Class 35. A four-pole machine shown as an exciter for the main machine 17 has pole X normally saturated and pole Y of the same polarity normally unsaturated. Its primary brushes 3, 4 are short-circuited and connected to one terminal 28 of the main machine while the other armature terminal 26 of machine 17 is connected through compensating coils 24, 25 to brush 5. Terminal 21 of the field winding of machine 17 is connected through compensating windings 22, 23 to brush 6. Field windings 7 on poles of the same polarity are connected between terminals 26, 28, while windings 29 on poles of the other polarity are connected across brushes 5, 6. The machine can act as a D.C.-D.C. self-driving converter by using 26, 28 as input terminals and 21, 28 for the output. The reluctance of one pole is variable.
