Abstract

677,551. Discharge lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and EDWARDS, E. F. Aug. 30, 1950 [Oct. 17, 1949], No. 26608/49. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (i). In order to stabilize the arc discharge in an xenon filled lamp, the tip of the cathode is curved. The tungsten cathode is either a cylinder terminated by a hemi-sphere or hemispheroid, a truncated cone terminated by a partspherical or part-spheroidal cap. The filling is at a pressure of 1 atmosphere when cold. The electrodes are riveted to molybdenum contactstrips and are sealed to the quartz envelope as disclosed in Specification 579,236, [Group XXXVI]. According to the Provisional Specification the sealing is effected as described in Specification 635,593, [Group XXXVI].
