Abstract

676,731. Lubricating. ROULEMENTS A BILLES MINIATURES SOC. ANON. July 20, 1950, No. 18174/50. Class 12 (iii). The bearings 5, 5<SP>1</SP> of a vertical shaft 2 are contained in sealed housings having oil reservoirs 18, 29 from which lubricant is fed on rotation by means of frusto-conical portions 17, 31 of the shaft to the bearings, and elastic covers 8, 22 are provided to take up rises of pressure within the sealed spaces. The housing for the upper bearing'has a bottom 7 having a central aperture 11 surrounding a central conical collar 12 on the shaft with fine clearance. The elastic cover 8 which may be synthetic rubber is pressed on to the top of the outer cylindrical wall 3 by a screw 9 having a central recess 10 communicating with the space below the bottom 7 by means of a lateral recess 19 and longitudinal channel 21. The arrangement is applicable to ball, roller, or plain bearings. In a modification a member 38, Fig. 5, is mounted at the lower end of a shaft 37 and has a conical bore 40 which extends into the reservoir 29<SP>1</SP>, and during rotation conveys oil through radial bores 41 to the bearing surfaces.
